Good Quote

I don't foray into Middle East politics and Israel very much. It comes down to the fact that I have nothing to add. I sometimes joke that the solution is to build a huge wall around Israel, don't let anyone in or out, and we'll be back to mop up what's left in 60 years. But in all seriousness, I don't have a clue what to do. I'm not equipped to settle battles between religious fanatics. But I think Matt Yglesias nails something fundamental with this line,
"To me, though, the natural followup to this is consideration of Israel's real strategic vulnerability -- the country is ruling over a population of several million Arabs to whom it refuses to grant either independence or citizenship...

[H]ow long can Israel persist as a successful country while contravening basic democratic norms and denying rights and electoral participation to a huge proportion of its de facto population?"

I still don't have an answer, nor do I expect to, but his phrasing of the question makes me see things from a new angle.
