Nancy Pelosi
Two comments about the Madam Speaker from yesterday.
First, when the vote on the bail out failed she held the vote open for about 10 or 15 minutes while attempting to twist arms to get some votes changed. It was wrong when the goppers did it and it was wrong when Pelosi did it yesterday.
Second, and more importantly though, Pelosi didn't get played the sucker by the goppers yesterday. The GOP negotiated hard to get concessions in the bill that the Democrats didn't like. In the process they promised to deliver 80 gopper votes. They didn't deliver. They didn't deliver because they planned to saddle the Democrats with the bailout and to run populist campaigns against the Demcorats for handing $700B to Wall Street. Pelosi and the Democrats were having none of that.
Over all, even though she violated some procedures she shouldn't she played it correctly.
