Another One

Andrew Sullivan covers the angles well here, I think.

A gay friend of mine once said that he knew other gay men that joined the priesthood in an attempt to be "cured" of homosexuality. He thought it was because they had been taught that their sexuality was wrong and a sin and the church was one place that could help them.

As a straight guy I can't claim to understand these feelings. What I do know is that the sexual repression of many (all?) religious organizations is unhealthy for everyone. I'm not saying that everyone should be running around having casual sex whenever the urge hits them. Then again, I'm not sayig they shouldn't. :) But sexuality is a part of the human condition and no institution, religious or secular, should be trying to control it and shame people who enjoy it.
