Gopper Issue, Non Starter
There are a number of issues that are publicly embraced by the GOP that makes them a non-starter to me. Their stances on torture, denial of global warming, evolution and other scientific issues, and desire to stick their noses in everyone's sex lives (abortion, homosexuality, contraception, abstinence education) are probably the big three for me. But their pandering to the Civil War nostaligias of the South is disgusting beyond belief.
Here's a protestor outside a McCain rally.
Huckabee embraces the Treason In Defense of Slaver sect.
On a national level we go through this shit every four years. I can't recall any Gopper saying, "No, you're wrong. The South's rebellion was an act of treason in an attempt to one priveleged group of people to own and violently supress another group." As much as I'd like to hear it I don't really expect it to happen. At minimum, they should quit pandering to this group of bigots.

"You don’t like people from outside the state coming in and telling you what to do with your flag," Mr. Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas, told supporters in Myrtle Beach, according to The Associated Press.
"In fact," he said, "if somebody came to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag, we’d tell them what to do with the pole; that’s what we’d do."
