Obama: Senator, Presidential Candidate, Diplomat
Since January 1, Obama has been working diplomatic channels to stem the violence in Kenya. He has recorded a VOA message urging peaceful resolution and talked with the opposition leader. He has a natural connection with Kenya, his paternal grandmother still lives their I believe, but I still have a hard time imagining any of the other candidates, on either side, doingg this.
Update:
Obama was heckled by anti-abortion protestors at a rally. After the hecklers left, with a little insistance from the police, Obama said, "Let me just say this though. Some people got organized to do that. That's part of the American tradition we are proud of. And that's hard too, standing in the midst of people who disagree with you and letting your voice be heard."
Mark and RBC may not want to comment but I will. Obama gets it! He understands democracy and how our system is supposed to work. Better yet, his statement shows respect for the protestors, his detractors. If you want to understand my enthusiasm for Obama and why he is attracting support from across the political spectrum just look at this one incident.
Update 2:
Continuing today's Obama love fest. Charles Peters give a quick summary of Obama's legislative record in Illinois. He led on many hard to pass bills requiring campaign financial disclosure and reforms to police interrogation rules.
And taking a trip on the way back machine, we get the Chicago Reader's bio of Obama as he began his political career in 1995.
