The Changing Skyline

I heard it pointed out that when developers propose new buildings in Chicago they never include other buildings under construction or proposed in their models of the downtown sky line. And then yesterday, walking south on Wabash Ave. heading towards the river it dawned on my that the stretch of street we were on would never see the sun again. It was 12:30 in the afternoon, the sun's highest point, on June 24th, the sun's farthest point north, and we were in the shadow of Trump Tower.

Currently, there are 10 buildings in Chicago over 800 feet tall. If you go to wiki and look at the list of tallest buildings in Chicago you can scroll down to a list of under construction, approved for construction and proposed sky scrapers for the city. If all those projects happen, the number of 800'+ buildings will more than double to 22!

In just a couple of years the skyline as we know it will be very, very different.

Wow. Your "no more sunshine on part of Wabash" comment really made me think. Sometimes development is not such a good thing.

Especially the Trump Tower. I hate Trump and I hate his tower. Grrrr....
