Random Baseball

Good News! Griffin Cox, the boy I mentioned last week that had been hit by a ball at Cellular Field, will not need surgery.

The Cubs home win streak was stopped at 14 by the Baltimore Orioles last Monday. Down by two, the Cubs threatened with bases loaded and no outs in the ninth. Baltimore closer George Sherrill struck out the last three batters to escape with the win. I'm pretty sure I was the only one at Kincades to applaud the out come. (The employees, many who are Sox fans, tend to keep it low key since they are getting tips from the saddened customers.) With a Cardinal win in Detroit the gap was once again closed to 3.5 games.

Congratulations to the Fresno State Bulldogs on winning the College World Series. I don't follow college ball but everything I've been seeing says that the Bulldogs are lowest seeded team in NCAA history to win a championship in any men's sport.

I'd also like to send out a hearty thanks to the Chicago White Sox for sweeping the Chicago Cubs this weekend. My Cardinals were able to make up two games this weekend. On the subject of the Cross Town Classic. I was at the Friday game. Two observations. After Nick Swisher hit his grand slam he and 2nd baseman Alexei Rameriez (I think) pulled a Captain Morgan pose that was shown on the jumbotron. It had me laughing. Also, I saw the most disgusting thing I've ever seen at a ball game. About the 2nd inning a guy walks down the row in front of me and asks, "Do any of you have a napkin?" His shoulder and neck was covered by a think, chunky, brownish green substance. The lady at the end of my row couldn't hold her liquor.

Bonus Pic from Friday's game. Sorry, not of the poor guy's shoulders.
