Maliki Giving More Orders

Iraqi Prime Minister al-Maliki ordered the end of joint U.S.-Iraqi road blocks around the Baghdad slum known as Sadr City. Sadr City is the home base of the radical Shi'ite Cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, a key ally in Maliki's gov't. He also leads the Mahdi Army which the U.S. suspects of being a main source of violence and sectarian killings in the center of the country. At one point before the elections the U.S. had an arrest warrant out for Sadr. In the end he was not arrested. I suspect because his followers caused too much havoc.

Every day it becomes more and more clear that we do not have control of the situation in Iraq. Our armed forces are the "guests" of the Iraqi government. That is how our leadership sold it and set it up. Now, when we try to curb the violence plaguing the country the Iraqi government thwarts us.
