Giving Yourself A Raise
The Illinois Senate granted itself and other elected officials a raise. Looking at the numbers they are not paid an outrageous sum but are above the national salary average. In contrast, I believe Chicago Alderman make $90K or $100K for what is a part time job. But listening to these guys justify their vote is comical.
- "When I fight for a minimum wage increase for everyone else, I need to fight for myself," said Sen. Kimberly Lightford (D-Maywood), who sponsored the increase in the state's minimum wage.
- "We are underpaid," said Sen. Rickey Hendon (D-Chicago). "If you reject a raise for yourself, you're saying you're not worth it. And I don't know about all of you, but I worked my butt off for the people of the 5th District, and I deserve this little cost-of-living"
