Soriano To The Cubs
The Chicago Cubs signed Alfonso Soriano to a multi year deal today. Part of me hoped the Cardinals would go after him and be able to get him. He provides a good bat and, in the Cardinals case, a good second baseman.
Still, with Cards not getting him, I'm VERY VERY happy the Astros did not get Soriano. I've heard they were after him and J.D. Drew. And based on the Cubs' hisotry and luck one should have every expectation that on April 15 Soriano will break his ankle sliding into 2nd base on stolen base attempt while simultaneously getting hit in the temple with the ball and the shortstop landing spikes first on his groin. But, hey, it will be a good two weeks in April.
UPDATE: 11/20 From Today's Tribune
"But he gradually learned to accept the move. His 22 outfield assists was nine more than the total from Cubs outfielders Jacques Jones, Juan Pierre and Matt Murton."
