We're Not Winning

That was Defense Secretary nominee Robert GAte's assessment of the war in Iraq. The Iraq Study Group, headed by James Baker III and Lee Hamilton, said that the situation is "grave and deteriorating."

I have my opinion of what needs to be done and have written it on this blog on multiple occasions. I'm looking forward to the Rove Talking Points. Up until now the GOP and their cheerleaders have accused the media of ignoring any and all good news. Well, now we have many in the old guard GOP saying the war has been and continues to be a disaster. So how are they going to spin it? Will they just out and out ignore the ISG? How will they deal with a Defense Secretary that says we're not winning the war?

It will be a problem for the GOP psyche of no mistakes. Their fundamentalist views make it very hard if not impossible to admit an error. I'm not sure what to expect. One side of me thinks Bush will use these reports as cover to get out. But another part of me thinks he will essentially ignore them or pull a single paragraph or two out of context and "stay the course."
