The City That Works

I've taken the last half of this week off of work. Dad is in town and the two of us along with my brother and his wife and my roommate are leaving for St. Louis tomorrow. We've got tickets for the Saturday and Sunday Cardinals / Giants games this weekend.

Today Dad and I were lounging around the living room watching Blue Planet while I was doing some laundry (great host, huh?). I took a load of laundry out the front door to go around the building and a couple Streets and Sans guys ask me if I know who owns a couple of cars. They've got a tow truck backed up the Lexus SUV and a couple of tree pruning trucks parked on the street.

A tree a few doors up from me had a major split in a major branch. It was in danger of falling into the street and had to be removed.

At first I thought they were taking down too many branches but as I watched more it became clear the the split branch (probably 10 inches across where it connected to the trunk) was falling into the branches of another two trees. Those had to be pruned to remove the danger. Overall, a good job by a much maligned city agency. Then you see this during their clean up.
