AG Prediction

The speculation about who will be Bush's nominee to replace Alberto Gonzales is ramping up. I'll leave the actual names to people who are up on that kind of thing. Here's my 2 cents on the process.

1. Shrub will come out with the name of a fairly contgroversial figure. He almost has to. He continues to run his presidential administration as a crime synidicate. He needs a lawyer to protect him. Plus, his ultimate goal will be to pick a political fight with Democratic Congress to score partisan points.

2. Since the Justice Department brass is already short changed and the acting head, solicter general Paul Clement, will have to start doing his day job in front of the Supreme Court very soon, Shrub will rightly point out that it is imperative to get a new AG installed ASAP. Since his nominee will cause a confirmation battle (see #1) the process will drag on and the Goppers and their echo machine will be all over the media claiming the Democrats are hurting law enforcement and anti-terrorist activities.

3. Bush will make a recess appointment of his controversial nominee in December. Since recess appointments stay in office until the next Congress is convened, Shrub will get his chosen consigliere.
