Yesterday's Storm, Part 2
The storm came through downtown and the Lincoln Park neighborhood in two waves. The first wave, around 3:30 PM was by far the most harsh. The winds were extreme and I've heard several reports of funnel clouds in the suburbs. Between the two waves I left work, hopped on the bicycle, and got my butt home.
When I got to Lincoln Park (the actual park) I found it badly smashed up. At least four trees had been uprooted. Including this one that literally snapped off below ground level.
Debris was everywhere and major branches had been torn from dozens of trees. My first gut reaction was that a tornado had come through the park but none of the buildings showed any damage. There was plenty of lightning but none of the trees I looked at showed any charring. It looks like they were taken down by wicked winds.
All the pictures I took in the park yesterday are here.
