The Playoffs
The first round of the baseball playoffs are done. The Arizona Dimondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox, and Cleveland Indians move on to the league championship series.
A few thoughts...
I was rooting for the Cubs although some core part of me rebelled at the idea. I never seriously thought they would get swept. It was a truely depressing divisional series on the north side of the city.
All 4 series went 2-0 in the first two games. Once the Cubs spiraled down the pipe I was strongly pulling for four sweeps. It would have been a first. Of course, the Evil Empire had to ruin that hope, too.
Although I like some of the players on the BoSox I hope Cleveland smacks them around mercilessly. I harbor few ill feelings about the 2004 sweep but I loath the pseudo-fans that came out of the closet in 2004. All these "Cubs Fans" suddenly felt some kind of bullshit brotherhood and ran out and bought faded BoSox hats. I don't want to see any more of those. And besides, it will keep Kenny Lofton in the playoffs longer and give him more chances to surpass Ricky "I'm The Greatest" Henderson for the all time post season stolen base record.
I don't know who I'm going to pull for in the NLCS. I really like the D'Backs fundamental baseball skills. They just do everything well. But how can a person not be pulling for the Rockies after their incredible run to get into the playoffs? It might be a game time, gut reaction that determines who I pull for. But it should be an awesome series all the same.
Whoever makes the World Series, Go National League!
