Now That's Snow!

Today! That was a real winter storm. Maybe not a full out blizzard but a real, Midwestern winter storm. I walked out this morning and there was 6" accumulated on the front steps.

It was a crowded bus this morning. LONGEST. BUS. RIDE. EVER. But what did I expect. I walk about 4 blocks from my bus stop to the office. Trudging over and through snow piles and across slushy sidewalks. The snow was coming down hard. When I pulled off the hood in the building I left a pile of snow to the consternatio of the maintenance guy.

Intellectually I was thinking how shitty the commute was. But I realized that I was smiling ear to ear! I was exstatic!

When I had left the house I was the first one out the door! Living in the city one just doesn't get the chance to trudge through fresh snow. So I took big leaping steps down making my clear imprint.

The falling snow is just plain beautiful. The snow piling up on every little surface - be it a tree limb, a shrubbery, a bus stop, or a building ledge - adds a clean white freshness to everything. As I walked in my big clod hopper boots I was able to move through the slop with out a concern.

I'm not a big winter fan but...

DAMN! I just love snow when it is falling. Be it what you see and experience at the time or just the memory of snowball fights and sledding.

I've been in the best mood all day!

BTW, the winter cyclists are crazy!

Image from the Tribune web site. It ain't mine.

There were two of them riding side by side down Clark St. this morning in front of my bus. I see them I think that I'm being a wimp for getting on the bus and at the same time think they're insane.
