Barack Obama received more primary votes in South Carolina than McCain and Huckabee, the top two Goppers, combined. Overall, nearly 90,000 more people voted in the Democratic primary than in the Gopper primary. This in a state that went overwhelmingly Gopper in the last election. You have to go back to 1960 to find the last time a Democratic candidate won the general election in SC.
