Behind Bars
No, not this kind of bar.
Thats the good kind.
No I mean vertical steel bars. Like these.
Yesterday was a beautiful day and "the new girl," the one I don't understand, asked if I wanted to go to the zoo with her. Heck, yeah, I did. What red blooded, heterosexual male wouldn't want to spend a sunny afternoon with a beautiful girl?
I have one or two reactions everytime I go to a zoo. On one level I always love seeing the animals. On another level I'm always depressed to see the animals. It can be heart breaking to see a beautiful creature like the Amur Leopard above caged up. I just want to think of it in the wild, stalking prey, and being wild. The way it is supposed to be. Unfortunately, this kind of leopard is almost gone. Estimates are that only 25 to 34 of them remain in the wild.
Yes, I know that many zoos do a lot of good with conservation, education, and preventing some species from becoming completely extinct. Some even do work to repopulate areas where species have become extinct or nearly vanished.
Still, when I watch the tiger at LP Zoo pacing in a figure 8 all day long (you can see the groove) I just want it to be free and stalking a jungle some where.
