Random Baseball

  • 08/11: On Monday the Cubs finished a 4 game series in Colorado. With a night game. I can't remember the last time a series ended on a Monday. Combine this with the early season scheduling where cold weather teams played each other at open air stadiums when warm weather teams played each other I've decided that Bud Selig is not the worst commissioner in professional sports. He's just the most clinically insane.

  • 08/12: On Tuesday Shaquille O'Neal threw out the first pitch at Busch Stadium and challenged Pujols to a HR contest as part of his reality TV show.

  • 08/19: The Birds continue to make moves. Schmoltz was pretty good last year but just didn't cut it starting in Boston. It is a low cost ($400K) experiment for The Birds to add the winningest post season pitcher in baseball history. Plus, who knows, let him work with Dave Duncan, one of the best pitching coaches in the game, and he might just make a mini late career come back.

  • 08/23 - Phillies end their Sunday game with an unassisted triple play.
