Brownback, Wrong On Science
University of Chicago Professor Jerry Coyne picks apart Brownback's NYT op-ed about evolution. It is not just Brownback's refutation of evolution that Coyne trumps but he also points out the greater problem: once one rejects one aspect of science, all science is rejected. This has long been a pet peeve / contention of mine. If one rejects evolution based on "the Bible says so" then it is an easy leap to reject global warming or any other scientific finding that one finds inconvenient.
I can't actually know what Brownback, Tancredo, and Huckabee (the three that raised their hands when asked who does not believe in evolution) actually believe. As Professor Coyne asks, do they really believe in creationism or are they just pandering. What I know and what Professor Coyne says is that it doesn't matter. The perpetuation of anti-scientific dogma is ruinous for our country and our society.
