Little Things Change
With my swollen painful ankle I've had to make little changes.
This is not a complaint of any kind. No doubt I'm a very lucky person. I could be in a cast with broken bones and already there are some minor improvements. Some people aren't so lucky. A lady getting on the bus this morning was using a cane and the bus driver had to lower the bus so she could step on. Her's did not appear to be a temporary injury but a permenant disability. The concessions she has to make to life will go on forever. Having this serious injury makes me understand what some people go through on a permenant basis. But I can't fully understand. I know that I will be back to more-or-less 100% in a month and back on the softball field. The lady on the bus today won't ever be playing competitive sports.
Fortunately, I am slowly recovering.
- I leave for work earlier in the morning to make sure I get a seat on the bus
- I've dug to the back of my sock drawer to find older, looser socks to avoid the pain of the tighter socks
- When leaving the office I take a less direct route to Michigan Avenue that has ramped sidewalks instead of going down stairs which is still painful

- I can normally walk up stairs, albeit slowly
- I was able to stand on the injured leg while raising my uninjured leg today. It makes showering much easier
- I can got through all of yesterday without popping a Vicodin (Ask for it by name!)
