Little Things Change

With my swollen painful ankle I've had to make little changes.
  1. I leave for work earlier in the morning to make sure I get a seat on the bus
  2. I've dug to the back of my sock drawer to find older, looser socks to avoid the pain of the tighter socks
  3. When leaving the office I take a less direct route to Michigan Avenue that has ramped sidewalks instead of going down stairs which is still painful

This is not a complaint of any kind. No doubt I'm a very lucky person. I could be in a cast with broken bones and already there are some minor improvements. Some people aren't so lucky. A lady getting on the bus this morning was using a cane and the bus driver had to lower the bus so she could step on. Her's did not appear to be a temporary injury but a permenant disability. The concessions she has to make to life will go on forever. Having this serious injury makes me understand what some people go through on a permenant basis. But I can't fully understand. I know that I will be back to more-or-less 100% in a month and back on the softball field. The lady on the bus today won't ever be playing competitive sports.

Fortunately, I am slowly recovering.
  1. I can normally walk up stairs, albeit slowly
  2. I was able to stand on the injured leg while raising my uninjured leg today. It makes showering much easier
  3. I can got through all of yesterday without popping a Vicodin (Ask for it by name!)
