Yeouch!
As previously mentioned I play softball. My team and I play hard. At times that means running hard (in my case that does not mean fast) and one has to slide to the base to avoid a tag. Well, I've never learned to slide properly. I know, theoretically, what to do. My weight is supposed to be on my calf and my butt. But when I go down I do so at an angle and most of my weight ends up on my knee. Ignorning for the moment what that is doing to my poor patella, every time I slide I end up with a pretty nasty scrape on my knee. Many layers of skin are gone. So I have to doctor it. Neosporin, Hydorgen peroxide, lots of soap and water and bandages. About twice a day I have to change the bandage and that yanks hair out of my knee. I don't care what the old wive's tale says, it hurts like and SOB whether you do it slow or fast.
Considering I play two to three games a week this is a common occurance from April through November. I'm giving serious consideration to shaving my knees. Alternatively, I'm giving minor consideration to learing to slide properly.
