Today's Stat

25%

The percentage of the drinking water Kane County estimates is used "outside" in the county. I.e., the drinking water is used to water lawns and fill swimming pools. For a count that is on the verge of over drawing on their water aquifers it seems like a very bad use of water. The county is attempting to come up with a plan that will limit the outdoor use and or provide non-treated water for this purpose.

From a story on Chicago Public Radio this morning.
