I Can't Drive 55
One of the best ways to reduce gasoline consumption is to just plain slow down. I think most everyone knows that intellectually but don't put it in to practice for any number of reasons. Reducing speed increases gas mileage. Back in 2005, the SF Chronicle increased their gas mileage on a Malibu by 10MPG by driving 55MPH. Higher gas mileage saves money and reduces carbon emissions.
Now, one of Europe's airlines is putting this simple concept into practice. Brussels Airlines spokesman Geet said that flight times will be lengthened by a minute or two and the airline will save 1.1M Euros ($1.76M).

Way to go, Brussels Airlines!!
And I couldn't agree more--but the dumb-ass American people wouldn't dream of slowing down ever, now would they??
