Random Baseball
From Saturday, July 5th's game. I was in the Casino Queen Party Deck, 1st row.
Watching the Cardinals host the Mets on 06/30 one of the ESPN announcers related a conversation with Tony LaRussa where LaRussa said he thinks pitching coach Dave Duncan deserves to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame for his work as a pitching coach. As far as I know that would be unprecedented. Players, managers, announcers, and even umpires get in but I don't believe any coaches have. Now Duncan has been a phenomenal coach for a lot of years. He's taken many, many players and turned their careers around. Off the top of my head, he turned a "washed up" Dennis Eckersley into a stud closer and most recently he remade failed closer Braden Looper into a successful starting pitcher. Still, how would one quantitatively measure a coach's performance to determine if he should be inducted into the Hall of Fame?
Good news for Cardinal Fans. Carpenter seems to be on track to recovery.
Bad news for Cardinal Fans. And Cub fans. ESPN is reporting tonight that the Milwaukee Brewers have made a trade that will net them last year's AL Cy Young Award winner, C.C. Sabathia.
